BIG Thank you from Hush
Sunday, 18 October 2009 04:07

thanksrainbowballoonHello everyone,

WOW! It's been a year since we first opened our doors at Hush, and to say I was a little nervous at first would be an understatement!!! And what a year it's been; it is without a doubt the most interesting and most fun I've had, and last weekend was a testament to the serious amount of fun to be had at Hush.

Thursday - Adam Dean; The magician with his very cheeky performance had us all scratching our heads in amazement, I am still mesmerised :) Maybe it was just me but I had no idea how any of his tricks were done and I can't wait to see it again .......It was truly amazing!

Friday - Drag Kings & Drag Queens went head to head in a Drag Off.....a great sight to behold. Congratulations Harley "You absolute legend".

Saturday - Dan Knight hosted the night and sang a few of his great songs for us , "Mudpie Princess" performed an absolute kick-arse gig, and then DJ Tori Mac spun us into a frenzy. I challenge anyone to want for more then that in one night!!!

As I said to you all on Saturday night, and if you were not able to make it, I'll say it again " a sincere Thank you all for your support", and in case I haven't yet had the pleasure of meeting you in person; if you see me at the bar next time come up and say "hello". For all you fellow Facebook addicts ; look me up and add me, that way I'll be sure to invite you to all of Hush's up coming events.

A whole range of events have been organised for you, with Halloween being our next big function.
Hush will be transformed into a creepy, crawly, spooky place with prices for Best Dressed and Karaoke for entertainment.

Next will be Melbourne Cup day, we are offering a special Buffet Luncheon on the day, so get in early and reserve your table. Tickets for both events available NOW.

If you missed out on getting your HUSH MEMBER DOG TAG, they are available at the bar for $10, but hurry as there aren't many left. This Tag will get you pre-sale prices for all ticketed events at the door, also discounted prices on our Gourmet Pizzas and we'll have special deals throughout the year.........

Thanks again for sticking with us through our first year of trading, we are looking forward to making HUSH the best bar in Canberra. And don't forget if you're thinking about having a party of any kind, give us a call to make it a function to remember.

Big love to all x x x

A packed and enthusiastic crowd celebrated the official opening of Canberra’s newest gay bar, Hush Lounge, by Andrew Barr MLA, Minister for Planning on Saturday, October 11, 2008.

Situated at the northern end of Woden, it’s a 3 minute walk from the bus interchange, next to Bertoluchi’s, across from the Ice Skating rink and at the geographic centre of Canberra. It’s sure to be a hit with the many local queers who live in Swinger Hill, Phillip, Holder and Hughes.

I’ve never seen such a broad range of queers at a Canberra gathering. Not only were there plenty of Hush’s target of over 30 year olds, but also plenty of friendly young people too. The mood was buzzy. It was great to see so many people I knew, many from the old days of the Meridian Club. And it’s not expensive. My stubbie of Cascade was only $5.

The interior is a spacious L shape, with plenty of comfortable lounges, chairs, tables and nooks as well as space for an intimate show. Although brightly lit for the opening, I hope the light levels will be dropped to match the low music levels. One of the biggest surprises was the large outdoor beer garden. Screened off from the public street with large 7 foot high iron sculptural barriers, the beer garden was a great area to pop out, especially if you like to have a ciggie.

The décor is restrained, neutral yet fresh. As Hush Lounge is located where Montezuma’s Restaurant used to operate, they have a full profession kitchen at their disposal and have plans for Sunday Roasts and more.

Canberra has come of age, able to support two gay venues, which perfectly complement each other. Hush is sure to be a packed after the Bush Dance on Saturday, December 1.

Hush Lounge, crn Launceston & Irving Streets, Phillip. Open Tuesday to Saturday 4pm to 1am. Sunday 2pm to Midnight
